The Realm stays partly visible beside its Panel — context is never lost
Panel anatomy

Surface is enamel: flat opaque warm brown, camel hairline, deep-umber outline, thin gold rim (a Panel shows a real thing), deep shadow — no blur, no translucent glass. Top edge carries the Realm's hue (2px cloisonné wire). Header: type eyebrow in realm hue → Goudy name → activity line with mint dot; quiet close. Body: element rows — each row's node is a small enamel medallion in its Element hue. Footer: one gold-rimmed sky primary, quiet enamel secondaries, Inspect bottom-right. Panels open with the gather motion (900ms settle) from their Realm.

Inspect is the deliberate path to exact detail: purpose, governance, membership, registration truth, what you can do there, and Compute/money effect — plain rows, camel keys, no pipelines. Same pattern for an Action's Inspect (object + version, changes, authority, reversibility).

Panels grow with their subject — media grids, calendars, program progress, rosters — but every Panel keeps a message bar: conversation is the primary way to work with anything. Content blocks are flat enamel tiles, glanceable, not clickable mazes; when a Source wants more, they say so.

Rules

A Panel always opens in front of, or slightly offset from, the Element that opened it — never detached, never centered as a modal. Panels are opaque enamel — Focus, not translucency, manages the Field/detail balance: at Clear the whole Panel fades back; the surface itself never goes glassy. Focus is the only member-facing balance term: 0% Clear = the Field leads, 100% Opaque = detail leads. Ki sets Focus from context; the Source can always override. Presence, navigation, Media, and Scenes pull toward Clear; conversation and detail pull toward Opaque. The input follows the active focus. One Panel leads at a time — Inspect opens exact detail as a deeper Panel, not a crowd of overlays.

Anchored Panel placement — the options (v0.4 handoff)
Side with most room · default right
Realm near an edge · Panel flips
Warm thread when distance is ambiguous
Small touch · bottom sheet, selection kept

Panels stay anchored in screen space while the Field pans/zooms, repositioning to remain visible at viewport edges. Keep the selected Realm visible whenever possible; at narrow desktop widths reduce Panel width before covering the Realm. The Panel exposes type, name, description, live context, contents, and available Actions — with exactly one sky primary: Enter [Realm]. Escape closes and restores focus to the selected Realm.
